ABOUT MARC: Marc launched his portrait photography business in 1989 after a successful ten-year career publishing a direct mail tabloid shopper in Fort Worth, which continued for almost 30 years after he sold the publication. In 1997, he moved into NorthPark Center, where he spent 25 years building a reputation as one of Dallas' premier portrait photographers. During his time there, Marc also ran the highly popular Santa Set for 16 years, creating cherished holiday memories for families.
Marc was one of the first photographers in the D/FW Metroplex to adopt and embrace digital photography. As an early adopter of Kodak's high-resolution digital cameras and printers, he was able to stage Children's Limited Edition Portrait events at NorthPark, allowing him to shoot, show, and deliver portraits in one visit. This major shift marked a significant departure from his earlier days working in his black & white and color darkroom, where every image was hand-processed and printed. His decision to embrace the latest technology allowed him to offer a faster, more streamlined experience for clients while maintaining the highest standards of image quality.
In 2021, amidst the challenges of the Covid pandemic, Marc moved his studio to its current location on W. Lovers Lane. He now offers signature Santa StoryBook Sessions, offering multi-pose imaging, enabling him to create incredible heirloom portrait albums that tell the unique, heartwarming story of your children's visit with Santa Claus.
One promotion he will bring back in 2025 is "103 Dalmatians," with live Dalmatian puppies, an all-time favorite for kids and parents. Another all-time favorite is his Bunny Rabbit Days Portrait Promotion, where he photographs children of all ages (some parents opt to "hop in" for images with their children with the bunnies). He originated his Bunny Rabbit Days portrait promotion in 1989 after studying with Tulsa portrait photographer, Les Peterson, and this coming year will be his 36th consecutive year to offer this promotion.
Marc is a longstanding member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and the Texas Professional Photographers Association (TPPA), with numerous accolades and achievements in children and family portrait photography. His extensive experience is not only grounded in local recognition but also enriched by the influence of some of the industry's most respected commercial photographers.
Marc has had the privilege of studying with photography legends like Gregory Heisler, known for his iconic covers of Time Magazine, as well as many notable subject throughout the world, and Jay Maisel, a New York City icon whose street photography has become synonymous with the city's raw energy and culture. He has also learned from Larry Dale Gordon, renowned for his work on the Marlboro Man campaign, and studied under Chris Ranier and John Sexton, two of Ansel Adams' former assistants, whose mastery of black-and-white landscapes has shaped Marc’s own approach to composition and light.
Other notable mentors include Ken Marcus, a celebrated photographer for Playboy Magazine, whose distinctive style blends sensuality with sophistication, and Denis Reggie, a preeminent society wedding photographer whose portfolio includes every Kennedy wedding since 1980, from the union of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver to John and Caroline Kennedy’s nuptials.
In addition to his commercial and portrait training, Marc has also explored the world of travel photography under the mentorship of Lisl Dennis, a renowned world traveler and photographer. Lisl's immersive approach to capturing global cultures and landscapes has greatly influenced Marc's ability to tell visual stories with depth, emotion, and authenticity. The experience has enriched his portraiture, adding a sense of adventure and global perspective to his work.
This is a small list of the many photographers he's studied with. "I was a sponge soaking up everything I could from as many different photographers whose worked I loved, and I'm still at is all these years later," says Marc. His newest endeavor involves transforming his photographs into painterly canvases, combining cutting-edge technology with traditional finishing techniques to create stunning, hand-painted portraits.
By learning from these influential figures, Marc has refined his craft, blending classical techniques with contemporary storytelling to create captivating, timeless images. These experiences have informed his unique approach to portraiture, where artistry meets technical precision, ensuring each session results in a photograph that tells a story as memorable as the subjects themselves.
With over three decades of experience, and many diverse influences and technical innovations, Marc has developed a unique photographic style that combines artistic depth, technical precision, and modern efficiency. His work continues to evolve because of his relentless passion to keep on learning and blending timeless portraiture with cutting-edge techniques to create timeless images that resonate emotionally ensuring each session results in a photograph that tells a story as memorable as the subjects themselves and that will last for generations.
